01.07.10 - News of Lufthansa Technik Hamburg

Having recently started the provision of technical services for the first of Lufthansa’s Airbus A380, Lufthansa Technik AG is also stepping up its preparation to offer technical services to the new aircraft types Boeing 787 and 747-8.

For the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, boasting until already more than 800 firm orders, the Hamburg-based specialists have begun planning and building up equipment and component support. Drawing upon an experience gained from looking after 2,000 commercial aircraft, Lufthansa Technik is developing a service concept custom-tailored to the aircraft that will extend from the worldwide supply of spare parts at short notice to the maintenance and repairs of materials and systems, some of which are new to aviation.
In the Hamburg component workshop and Air France Industries’ site E.O.L.E. close to Paris-Orly, Spairliners, a Joint Venture between Air France and Lufthansa Technik AG, has commenced with fully integrated component support for Lufthansa’s Airbus A380 fleet. Next to the existing customers Qantas Airways and Air France, Spairliners will also provide the German carrier with component services. The new long-term agreement covers all 15 A380s ordered by Lufthansa. Currently, Spairliners supports ten A380 aircraft, with a total of 47 aircraft under exclusive long-term contract.
